The BLF (Black First Land First) Has Been Deregistered As A Political Party

The Electoral Court rejected the BLF's application to appeal its deregistration on Monday the 4th of November 2019. The BLF was deregistered as a political party due to excluding membership on the basis of race, colour or ethnicity. The IEC does not allow this in terms of Section 16(1)(c) of the Electoral Commission Act (Act 51 of 1996).

The BLF (Black First Land First) principle stated that only black people could be members of this party. Andile Mngxitama, the leader of the BLF made it clear that white people were not allowed to join. Pieter Groenewald the leader of the Freedom Front Plus said that the deregistration of the BLF as a political party is a win for the whole of South Africa and that racial hatred and intolerance must not be tolerated.
