Due to the lockdown, South African citizens can expect 3 days of stage 1 load shedding during the winter. Eskom’s Generation Group Executive, Bheki Nxumalo, announced that there might not be any stage 2 or 3 load shedding during the winter.
The projection of 3 days decreases from 31 days in which load shedding stage 1 was expected, based on an 80% probability.
Eskom’s Chief Operating Officer Jan Oberholzer said that the country is still not out of danger, even though the power utility has recovered some partial losses and improvements was made.
The units will be sustainable and reliable if proper reliability maintenance is done, and they have not done so yet. He added that the risk of load shedding will remain until July 2021. The system is unpredictable and unreliable due to neglect for the past 10 years.
