Lockdown Shopping Checklist

South Africa will go into a full national lockdown on Thursday 26 March 2020 to 16 April 2020. Here are a few ideas of what might be a good idea to have in your home when the country goes into lockdown for 21 days. President Ramaphosa said there is no need to stockpile goods as there will still be a continuous supply of goods.

Food:

  • White/Brown Rice
  • Spaghetti
  • Beans
  • 2 Minute Noodles (Great for lunch)
  • Flour
  • Rusks
  • Pasta
  • Canned Vegetables 
  • Powder milk like Creamora etc.
  • Long-life milk (Can Last up to 5 months)
  • Cereals
  • Garlic, Ginger and Lemons (Great for your immune system)
  • Oranges (Packed with Vitamin C)
  • Etc.

Try eating more vegetables to keep your immune system strong. (Covering vegetables in a nice sauce still counts) 

Kitchen supplies:

  • Coffee and Tea
  • Sugar
  • Cooking Oils
  • Spices
  • Ketchup
  • Salt
  • Clean Water (For drinking)
  • Water purifiers

Medication:

  • Paracetamol (Panado etc.)
  • Anti-diarrhoea medication
  • Inhalers (If Needed)
  • Chronic Medication - Gout, Bp, Diabetes, Anxiety etc.
  • First aid kit
  • Cough syrup
  • Flu Medicine like Sinucon etc.
  • Medlemon
  • Vitamin C and Multivitamins 
  • Etc.

General sanitisation & personal hygiene:

  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Jik/Bleach
  • Detol/Savlon
  • Masks
  • Gloves
  • Soap, dishwashing soap, washing detergent
  • Sanitiser
  • Shampoo
  • Toothpaste
  • Toiletpaper, Tissues

Energy & Light:

  • Extra prepaid electricity units
  • Extra gas
  • Extra light bulbs

  • Debit & credit cards (Check the expiry dates)
